Bucs Mthombeni Clarifies Chairman-Coach Double Role

Casric Stars boss and coach Joseph ‘Bucs’ Mthombeni has clarified his double role at the club, saying he’s not steering the ship alone on the management side.

Mthombeni who is the better known director of the Motsepe Foundation Championship side told iDiski Times senior journalist Matshelane Mamabolo in the latest edition of the newspaper that he has a partner in Caswell Mukansi who is a co-owner and helps with running the club.

Bucs has helped the team reach the semi-finals of this season’s Nedbank Cup where they will meet Durban City for a place in the final. Casric are also still in contention for promotion as they sit in fourth place on the championship standings with 38 points, two points from log leaders Milford from 22 games.

Mthombeni explained that he’s been tasked with the coaching responsibility because of his experience in the lower divisions, while Mukansi takes charge of bigger things in the boardroom.

“First of all, I’m not alone in this club,” Mthombeni told iDiski Times.

“We are two. To clarify this matter, I own this club with Mr Caswell Mukansi. To clarify this, he is the chairman and I am the coach. But we are partners.

“It’s not difficult because I’ve got my partner [Mukansi] who is dealing with all the other work that was supposed to stress me.

“Now, specifically, I was given the role of coaching the club due to what I’ve achieved and due to the experience that I’ve gained over the years. I’ve been coaching from the amateur level, going to the ABC [Motsepe League] in the North West and then to the ABC in Gauteng.

“And then after that, we purchased the status of Free State Stars [in the Motsepe Foundation Championship]. Then we looked at what I’d done, and because of what I achieved, we decided – as directors – that I must take the coaching.”
