Durban City Captain Reacts To ‘Shock’ Debut Season

Durban City captain Siphamandla Ncanana is shocked by their first top-flight season after reaching the Nedbank Cup semi-final and currently sitting in fifth place.

In their first season, Durban City have punched above their weight, finding themselves in fifth place despite changing coaches three times already this season.

The KwaZulu-Natal-based side were knocked out in the quarterfinal of the Carling Knockout Cup by their rivals Richards Bay.

It has been a season to remember for them. They are currently in the Nedbank Cup semi-final, where they will face Motsepe Foundation Championship side, Casric Stars, who knocked out Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu FC to reach the semi-final.

Skipper Ncanana noted that this season has surprised them, but they mustn’t be comfortable because things could change, and there’s still a lot to play for.

“It’s really shocking us, but as much as it has shocked us, I think it’s our job to put ourselves where we are, and it’s only us that will determine where we end up,” Ncanana told the media.

“We mustn’t be comfortable as players; we must know that anything can happen at any given moment. Just because we’re sitting in fifth place, there are a lot of games left.

“We might find ourselves at the bottom because when you look at the gap, there’s not that much difference. We must be out of our comfort zone and continue fighting.”
