South African tactician Rulani Mokwena guided Al Ittihad SC to an emphatic 4-1 trouncing win over Shabab Al Ghar in the Libyan Premier League on Saturday night.
After his troops romped to an emphatic 4-1 win in the Libyan Cup in his debut match, Mokwena picked up his second victory as Ittihad head coach as they stretched their lead at the top.
The hosts broke the deadlock as early as the sixth minute through Mouad Issa, though their celebrations were short-lived as Shabab levelled matters in the 15th minute.
Mokwena’s charges restored parity in the 26th minute with Fadel Salama getting on the scoresheet.
Issa then grabbed his brace of the evening in the 61st minute to all but hand the home side all maximum points.
In the 79th minute, Stephane Aziz Ki completed the rout by making it 4-1 over a hapless Shabab side.
The win sees Ittihad remain the only unbeaten team in the league as they opened up an eight-point lead with 35 points after 13 matches.
Mokwena joined the Libyan giants from MC Alger, where he won the Algerian Super Cup, leaving the Algerian side at the top of the Ligue 1 and almost guaranteed to win the league title this campaign.
Their next league assignment will see them take the trip to Al Tersana Tripoli on Wednesday, April 15.
