Sekhukhune United coach Eric Tinkler says though he wasn’t happy with how his side played in the 1-0 victory over Magesi FC, the three points are valuable in their quest to finish third.
Babina Noko declared that their target this season was to finish in the top three and qualify for the CAF inter-club competition. They started the season like a house on fire and had some parts of the game’s followers and pundits calling them a dark horse in the title race.

However, towards the end of last year into the new year, they endured a slump that has seen them slip lower to the mid-table. They were also eliminated from the Nedbank Cup which would have given them continental football passage.
Before the victory over Magesi, Sekhukhune’s last league win was in February and they find themselves in fifth position on the league log with 38 points in 24 outings.
They are now four points from third-placed Kaizer Chiefs who also have two games in hand.
Tinkler is confident his side can win all their remaining matches including against direct competitors for third spot.
“What is it now seven games left, nothing says we can’t go win all seven,” said Tinkler.
“So, that’s got to be the mindset that we can achieve. We’ve got Chiefs still to play here, so we still have something to say about who’s finishing third. I don’t think that race is over.
“But I think today [Saturday], three points was key very, very important to close that gap.”
