Appollis On Footballer Of The Season Award

Orlando Pirates winger Oswin Appollis has remained coy on the Footballer of the Season accolade after many believe he is in the conversation for the award.

Appollis’ first season at Pirates saw him winning two trophies, MTN8 and Carling Knockout Cup.

The Bafana Bafana winger has had a huge impact in the Pirates title fight with 14 goal contributions. Only Relebohile Mofokeng, Sede Junior Dion and Iqraam Rayners have racked up better stats than him.

With the season approaching the end, the talks of individual awards such as Player’s Player of the Season which is voted for by players and Footballer of the Season which is voted by coaches has started.

Appollis’ name is being mentioned alongside his teammate Mofokeng, but the former Polokwane City winger distanced himself from those talks, stating that his focus is on helping the team win games at this present moment.

“At the moment our focus is to win games as a group and share the ball as many as we can,” Appollis told the media when asked about the Footballer of the Season award.

“That’s what the group has been doing – whoever is scoring we always there to assist him and that’s what I am doing.

“The Player of the Season is not on my mind at the moment. My job is to score goals and help the team win.”
