Orlando Pirates took another huge charge towards their maiden DStv Diski Challenge title after dispatching Magesi FC 2-1 in Saturday morning’s clash.
Pirates went into the break leading after the goals from Mpho Phadime and Samukelo Zikalala. Magesi pulled one back in the second half but that wasn’t enough as Bucs secured maximum points.
This is a massive step towards the league for Pirates, as they need just four points from their remaining two games, depending on the result of tomorrow’s game between Mamelodi Sundowns and Richards Bay away from home.
Pirates are leading by six points at the top and a win and draw would push them closer to their first-ever DDC title. They will face Chippa United away from home and Sundowns at home in their last two fixtures.
Sundowns on the other hand will play on Sunday with a lot of pressure as they now know the results between Magesi and Pirates already. Downs are on an eight-match winning streak. They had cut the gap between them and Pirates to three points after their 3-1 midweek win over Polokwane City, but will not look to drop points as the gap might increase.
The Tshwane giants are the highest-scoring team in the league with 67 goals, 22 of those goals have been scored by striker Bennett Mokoena.
Results:
Magesi FC 1-2 Orlando Pirates
Durban City 0-1 ORBIT College
TS Galaxy 1-0 Polokwane City
