Cardoso – The Only Advantage of Facing PLK City Back-To-Back

Miguel Cardoso has highlighted a potential advantage for Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of their second successive league clash against Polokwane City.

Masandawana secured a 1-0 win over Rise and Shine at Seshego Stadium on Wednesday night, reclaiming top spot in the Betway Premiership standings.

The two sides will meet again on Sunday, 3 May at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, where Sundowns will look to extend their lead at the summit.

Cardoso suggested the match may lack intensity due to limited recovery time, adding that both teams are in the same position physically after playing within days of each other.

He sees this as an advantage compared to their usual situation of facing opponents who are well rested.

“I don’t know if it’s an advantage or not. We had to play every opponent home and away,” said Cardoso.

“The only advantage that other teams have towards ourselves is that has not happened this time is that teams don’t play in between the weeks.

“So this Polokwane team played four days ago as we, or three days ago as we and you understand the level, the impact that it brings also on the opponent. So that’s the only thing that we can profit, but it’s both sides.

“Both teams will be exposed to a third match in a seven-day, which is obviously a big aggression.

“So we don’t expect a lot of intensity, but we need to go to the limit as we can. Let’s recover the players as much as possible now.”
