Mngqithi – This AmaZulu Star Should Be With Bafana

Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi has revealed an AmaZulu FC star whom he believes should be in the Bafana Bafana squad.

Mngqithi was speaking after Abafana Bes’thende drew 1-1 with Usuthu in a Betway Premiership match on Wednesday evening.

He spoke highly of several players from teams in the KZN province, saying they performed well this season and competed strongly in the league.

He specifically commended Nkosikhona Radebe, suggesting the defender should be providing cover at right-back for the national team.

While Khuliso Mudau remains the established first choice and Thabang Matuludi serves as a secondary option, Mngqithi believes Radebe’s consistency warrants a look-in from Hugo Broos.

“There’s been a tremendous improvement in how KZN teams have performed this year. And we should be very grateful for that,” said Mngqithi.

“I think we all have very young teams, which is encouraging for me. Because it says it’s a project that is still ongoing, that has got a potential to improve going forward. Personally, I think I’m averaging around 22, probably with one or two players that normally increase that average.

“But I think the team has improved a lot in that regard. And I see AmaZulu have got some very interesting youngsters in Zikhali, Hlangabeza, Maqokolo. There are a lot of boys that are really interesting and probably have put in good return on investment for the KZN province.

“And Durban City also has some very, very interesting young boys. Jurgens, I think, is doing very well, Maseko is doing very well, Magawana.

“And when you look at all these teams, and at AmaZulu, there’s also this boy Radebe, who in my opinion should be a cover in the national team. He has done very well. I think he’s got six assists and four goals for a full-back. That’s very big. Even today, he nearly punished us.

“So, for me, those are suggestions that there’s a lot of positive things in KZN. And if you look at Richards Bay, those Mthembus, Zikhali in the midfield, they’ve got quite a young team, those ones. Gumede on the side, very, very interesting player.

“I can give you a long list of these boys. Ngema is a young boy, but he’s doing well. Barns is doing very well.

“When you look at how KZN teams have competed this season, let alone where they are now in terms of their lock positions, I think all of them have done well.”
