Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana says they are not too focused on last season’s mistakes but doing well in this season’s CAF Champions League second leg final.

Sundowns are in their second successive final of the biggest inter-club tournament in Africa. Last season they had to watch Pyramids FC celebrate after winning 3-2 on aggregate. This time around they have a 1-0 advantage over ASFAR of Morocco from the first leg from last Sunday at home.

Kekana says all they can do is to draw lessons from last year’s misfortunes and do their best.

“Obviously we learnt from them [mistakes from last season],” said Kekana.

“It’s all experience at the end of the day, but we’re not too focused on what could have been done back then. We’re focused on the future and the present, and I think that’s our main focus.

“We don’t want any distractions, any negativity surrounding us and we want to go into the game as positive as possible.”

The 31-year-old who was serving a suspension in the first leg admitted the Brazilians want to win their second African title but know they are going to have to earn it.

“We’d obviously love it but nothing is guaranteed,” added the Limpopo born defender.

“We’re also not entitled to anything. Ours is to do the work, pray hard also, but put ourselves in a position where we’re able to achieve that.

“It’s not easy being here. We know the road that it took for us to get here and for us it’s just to leave everything on the field.”
