Rulani Mokwena’s Al Ittihad SC have been eliminated from the Libyan Cup after losing to their arch-rivals Al-Ahli Tripoli on Sunday.
Things haven’t gone the way the South African mentor would’ve wanted after failing to qualify for the CAF inter-club competition.
Mokwena took over in March, when his side were unbeaten on top of the log. They finished the regular season with three wins and a draw, but things went south in the playoffs.
After a defeat to Swehly and two draws, Mokwena’s Al Ittihad even dropped out of the CAF inter-club competition spots, with Swehly advancing to the Libyan Premier League final, where they will face Al-Nasr.
The last hope of silverware for the South African was ended in the Libyan Cup semi-final, when they lost 2-0 to their biggest rivals Al Ahli Tripoli away from home.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Wydad Athletic Club mentor will go to the break now and recharge before preparing for the upcoming season.
