Portugal narrowly beat Nigeria 2-1 in their international friendly at Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa on Wednesday night.

Selecao were first to find the opening through Diego Galot who supplied Pedro Neto for the 1-0 advantage in the 23rd minute.

Trincao almost doubled the lead in the 37th minute but Maduka Okoye was equally up to the task, tipping the ffort over the crossbar.

In the 37th minute, the Super Eagles levelled matters through Akor Adams who collected a beautiful pass from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru before slotting past Diogo Costa to make it 1-1.

Substitute Joao Felix almost put Portugal into the lead just two minutes into the second period with an audacious shot from outside the box, but Okoye again denied Roberto Martinez’s charges.

There was no chance for superstar and captain Cristiano Ronaldo to add to his tally as he chases a record of 1000 career goals as he was hauled off in the 65th minute with Gonçalo Ramos taking his place.

Francisco Conceição made it 2-1 in the 75th minute with an individual brilliance as he cut in from the right before firing past Okoye.

That’s how the game ended as Martinez’s men held on to claim the maximum points.
