Austrian Bundesliga outfit FC Red Bull Salzburg will host CAF Champions League champions Mamelodi Sundowns in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, 18 July 2026, in Mondsee.
The African continent conquerors capped off an imbalanced season with the continental crown beating AS FAR 2-1 on aggregate in the final for their second star, the first South African club to do so.
This was however not their only trophy. They rallied from a goal down to beat RB Leipzig 3-1 to be crowned inaugural RedBull Diski Last Namba champions at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Friday, May 29.
The German outfit had taken the lead in the 21st minute as Gulacsi Konate thundered a volley home after a loose ball fell kindly for the forward on the edge of the box, to make it 1-0.
Sundowns, who have emerged as Africa’s top club side of late, were potent in their attack levelling matters in the 77th minute as Tashreeq Matthews’ low cross from the right found substitute Brayan Leon in the box who tucked it away neatly to make it 1-1.
Brayan Leon then made a huge impact as he put the home side in front with his brace of the evening, making it 2-1 in the 88th minute.
Teenage sensation Bennett Mokoena then produced a sublime curler in the right corner for the third goal in the 92nd minute to put the result to bed as Masandawana walked away with the three points and the trophy.
Miguel Cardoso’s charges will now take the trip to Europe to face Salzburg in Mondsee.
