Bafana Bafana head Hugo Broos has reacted to his side’s 1-1 draw with Czechia at the Mercedes Benz Stadium on Thursday evening.
Teboho Mokoena netted a late goal from the penalty spot after Czechia had opened the scoring as early as in the sixth minute.
But Bafana got better as the game went on, and earned their point, which kept their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages alive.
“I think I’m very proud of my team,” he said after the match, as per SABC Sport.
“When you see the reaction after the game against Mexico, this is Bafana Bafana – we play good football, we are aggressive, we have chances.
“But you need also a little bit and we made one mistake, everyone knows that number is throwing very far, but in the beginning of the game we were surprised by that. It’s a pity.
“But again I’m very proud of the performance of my team.”
‘Czechia Just Kick The Ball Forward & Hope’
Broos also admitted that he felt Czechia didn’t offer much besides hoping for their height and physical advantage.
“I think the public chose the best football team [on the pitch],” he added.
“The Czechia team is very powerful and they are very tall also – they just kick the ball to the front and hope that someone of 1.95m has the ball and pushes it back.
“But we did it very well, the second goal was several times for us, so again fantastic performance.
“But it’s a little pity that it’s only 1-1.”
The Belgian coach also remained confident ahead of his side’s final group match against Korea Republic, which they will have to win in order to progress,,
“It’s very good, we don’t have to count on someone else. We just have to win the game against South Korea, which will be very difficult,” he added.
“But when we play again like today with the same mentality, I think it’s possible.”
