Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brian Baloyi says the side’s newly appointed coach Fernando Da Cruz should be given the benefit of the doubt and patience as he takes over reigns at Naturena.

The coach was announced last week having signed a two year deal with an option to renew for a further year. The Frenchman comes armed with a UEFA Pro License, Technical Director experience with the Royal Morocco Football Federation and a Botola League title from 2022/23 with ASFAR.

Baloyi told IDiski Times senior journalist Matshelane Mamabolo in edition 261 of the newspaper that though Amakhosi haven’t enjoyed much success in the past under French coaches, Da Cruz should be given a chance.

“Let’s give him a chance and see how he does,” Baloyi told IDiski Times.

“The club has appointed him after all. You know, I never like to judge people based on their ethnicity, and I don’t like to put people in a box and say French people are like this. I believe as human beings, we’re all different.”

“I’m hoping he has a different approach. But yes, you can’t help but think about what happened before when Chiefs went with French coaches.”

“I think what clubs sometimes ignore is that being a coach is not just about what you know technically. It’s not just the tactics.”

“It’s about being a human being, the human side is very important and that particularly plays a very big part here in South Africa.”
