Bafana Bafana legend Mark Fish is confident that the team can make history on Thursday and qualify for the second round at the FIFA World Cup, a feat that has eluded the senior national team at their previous three appearances.

However, Bafana who are currently bottom of Group A with just a point must beat South Korea in Monterey to ensure passage into the round of 32.

Fish spoke to iDiski Times senior writer Matshelane Mamabolo in the latest edition of the newspaper about how impressed he was with the team in the 1-1 draw against Czechia last Thursday saying they can build on that performance.

The former Jomo Cosmos and Orlando Pirates defender believes the players now realise the magnitude of the event and he is confident they will cross over the line.

“I’ve always said I’m very confident that this team will progress out of the group stages,” Fish told iDiski Times.

“Of course, the last match against Korea is going to be very challenging because we need a win to go through. And we know that Korea has very fit players who are going to work until the last minute.

“But I’m excited to see what Bafana can do. The improvement in the match against Czechia from that first one against Mexico gives me confidence for the final one.

“I think the players now believe in themselves more and they realise what the World Cup is all about. Now, let’s go play and showcase what we are good at and get the result that we need to get so that we can get out of the group stage.”
