Former AmaZulu and Chippa United head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has been appointed as new coach of Motsepe Foundation Championship side Highbury FC.

Vilakazi, also known as Kanu, was last in charge of Chippa but was dismissed three games before the end of last season.

He previously also coached Usuthu, Richards Bay and Golden Arrows, while he also had a stint as Technical Director at the Chilli Boys.

On Friday, Highbury announced the appointment of the 43-year-old.

“Highbury FC is delighted to announce the appointment of vusumuzi vilakazi as the club’s new head coach,” the club stated.

“Following positive and productive discussions, the club has reached an agreement with coach Vilakazi, who will lead the team into the upcoming season.

“Coach Vilakazi brings a wealth of experience, strong leadership, and a clear football philosophy that aligns with the club’s ambitions.

“We are confident that his expertise will play a key role in driving Highbury FC forward as we continue our pursuit of success in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

“Everyone at Highbury FC extends a warm welcome to coach Vilakazi and wishes him every success in his new role. Welcome to Highbury FC, coach Kanu.”

Highbury finished in sixth place in the Motsepe Foundation Championship last season, 10 points behind the promotional playoff spots.
