Cape Town City have announced the signing of former Orlando Pirates midfielder Thabang Monare on a free transfer.

The Citizens snapped up Monare on a free transfer after he left Sekhukhune United.

Monare, 36, has tons of experience, having won a league title and the Carling Knockout with Bidvest Wits as well as two MTN8 and two Nedbank Cups with Pirates.

His exit at Sekhukhune United came as a surprise to the football fraternity after making 32 appearances and scoring two goals last season.

He adds experience in the CT City side after the exits of Keagen Dolly, Njabulo Ngcobo, Dzenan Dzajmovic, Sifiso Ngobeni and Siphamandla Dondolo.

City fell just short of automatic promotion after finishing bottom on promotion playoffs mini-league and have started a major revamp under new head coach Andries Ulderink.

Monare is City’s third signing after Parsley Fielies from Hungry Lions and Marcelo Suárez, who joined the club from Club Always Ready.
