Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Aden McCarthy made a cameo off the bench in Sabah FK’s 2-0 win over TNS in their UEFA Champions League qualifier.
McCarthy, 22, ended a memorable breakout season at Naturena with a lucrative move to Europe, joining the Azerbaijan Premier League ahead of the 2026/27 season.
As champions Sabah have entered the first qualification round of the Champions League, facing Welsh champions The New Saints.
Veljko Simic opened the scoring for the home side after 66 minutes, before Kaheem Parris netted the second in the 84th minute.
Sabah were reduced to 10 men in the 92nd minute when Steve Solvet got sent off, with McCarthy coming off the bench to stabilise the defence in the 94th minute.
McCarthy’s side would need to get past three qualification rounds to make the League Phase of the Champions League.
