FIFA have announced the latest world rankings after the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Bafana Bafana jumping up six spots.
Spain were crowned new world champions after beating Argentina 1-0 in a pretty one-sided final, where the 2022 winners had zero shots on target.
As a consequence, Spain has also overtaken Argentina in the FIFA rankings and are back to number one, with Argentina falling into second place.
France and England remained unchanged in third and fourth, followed by Brazil and Morocco, who both climbed one spot – with Morocco staying the highest-ranked CAF nation by some distance.
Portugal, who dropped two spots, Belgium, the Netherlands and co-hosts Mexico complete the top 10 after the latter climbed four spots.
Meanwhile, Senegal remains Africa’s second-highest team but have dropped three spots into 18th overall. Egypt made a massive jump of five places into 24th and are now Africa’s third highest-ranked side.
Nigeria, who failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, stayed in 26th, while Algeria dropped one spot into 29th.
The rest of the African top 10 all climbed up, with Ivory Coast moving up two spots into 31st, DR Congo climbing five into 41st and Cameroon up one spot into 43rd.
Mali, plus two into 53rd, and Bafana, plus six into 54th, round out Africa’s 10 highest-ranked teams. It’s Bafana’s highest position in the FIFA rankings since January 2015 when they were 52nd.
