Mamelodi Sundowns submitted a request to the Premier Soccer League for a postponement of their Betway Premiership opening fixture against Marumo Gallants, which has seemingly been granted.
Four days remain before the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season gets underway, and Sundowns are back not in the country – they are currently in Austria, where they are having a pre-season camp.
Masandawana’s arrival in Austria was delayed after the untimely passing of midfielder Jayden Adams, with most of the squad attending his memorial service.
This publication has learnt the PSL approved Sundowns’ request to postpone their opening fixture against Gallants, which was scheduled to take place on 1 August and will now be rescheduled to a new date.
The PSL has also marked the match as “postponed” on their official website.
Sundowns are expected to return to South Africa in the coming days and continue with their preparations for a gruelling 2026/27 campaign that will see them take part in multiple additional competitions such as the CAF Super Cup, the FIFA Intercontinental Cup and African-Asian-Pacific Cup after their win of last season’s CAF Champions League.
Their schedule is already tight for the season ahead as overall they will be competing in eight competitions this campaign.
