Stellenbosch FC head coach Gavin Hunt has highlighted the fitness challenge facing Given Msimango after the defender made his debut for the club.
Msimango made his first appearance for Stellies in Tuesday evening’s goalless draw against Durban City at Chatsworth Stadium, as Stellenbosch recorded their second draw of the Betway Premiership season.
The result left the Western Cape side with two defeats, two draws and just one victory from their opening five league matches.
Hunt was pleased with Msimango’s debut and praised his overall performance, however, he admitted that the centre-back is still short of match fitness and will need to continue working to reach his best physical condition.
“I should have protected him in the last 20 minutes, which I did,” said Hunt.
“He did well, I believe he was good, he’ll be good for us. But obviously he hasn’t been fit. He came here very unfit.”
Stellenbosch meet Sekhukhune United in their next league match on 11 September.
