Cape Town City collected their first win of the season after defeating Hungry Lions, while Magesi are at the top of the log with three wins in three games.
CT City came into the game in need of a win after starting their 2026/27 season with one loss and a draw. The Citizens went into the break leading 2-0 through goals from Kayden Francis and Cheswyn Philander. Hungry Lions Pulled one back in the 86th minute causing a nervier ending.
League leaders Highbury FC understood that they wouldn’t have an easy task against Upington City. Bafana Ba Gucci and Amajuba went into the break goalless. A second-half goal from Lulama Maqoko was enough to hand Highbury their third successive win this season and sent them into second on the Motsepe Foundation Championship table.
Meanwhile, Leicesterford City had their tails up after playing a draw against Cape Town City midweek. On Saturday, Leicesterford took the lead against Magesi in the 39th minute. Leicerford went into the break leading 1-0 but Magesi scored three goals in the second half to claim all maximum points and go to the top of the league table.
AmaTuks also finally managed to get maximum points after defeating Venda Football Club by 2-0 despite finishing the game with 10 men after Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi received a red card. Luvuyo Phewa and Sammy Darpoh scored for AmaTuks.
Two newly promoted sides, North West University and Hope FC, faced each other in North West and Samkelo Zwane’s first-half goal was enough to hand Hope FC all three points away from home.
The Bees‘ struggle continued after suffering a 1-0 defeat against Gomora United, while Real Native FC walked away with three massive points on Friday after defeating Midlands Wanderers.
