Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lebohang Maboe has expressed elation at making Pitso Mosimane’s final Bafana Bafana squad.
‘Jingles’ announced his 30-man squad on Thursday for the back-to-back 2027 CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea at Orlando Amstel Arena on 26 September and Eritrea on 30 September, before facing Egypt in an additional friendly match next month.
The 32-year-old Amakhosi man makes a return to the national team fold after he was an unused substitute when Bafana defeated hosts Egypt 1-0 in a 2019 AFCON Round of 16 clash.
He however last featured for the national team in a 3-2 win over Uganda in an international friendly in June 2021, racking up 90 minutes in that tie.
Maboe has made 17 Bafana appearances with three goals and will be looking to add to his tally after making the final squad.
“It’s really, really a pleasure to don the national team jersey,” he told the Chiefs website.
“It is a dream for every footballer, for every kid that grows up.
“I can never take this milestone lightly.”
The former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker has been in sublime form for Chiefs with back-to-back man of the match awards and four goal contributions this season – two goals and two assists which has not gone unnoticed for the national team selectors.
