CAF has announced increase in prize money for this year’s WAFCON winner by 100% and 45% as the total prize money for the competition.
The developments mean the winner of the event starting 5-26 July in Morocco will get double of what Banyana Banyana won at the last edition, USD 1 million [R18m]. Runners-up will receive USD 500, 000 [R9m], bronze medallists USD 350, 000 [over R6m] and the team that finishes fourth will get USD 300, 000[over R5m].

The overall prize money for the competition is USD 3,475, 000. In the same announcement, CAF said the 100% increase in the bonus for the winning team of this upcoming tournament should help improve the remuneration of players, coaches and technical staff.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe said these are all efforts of their continued commitment to the development and progression of women’s football.
