Daka Rescues Draw For 10-Man Chipolopolo

Leicester City striker Patson Daka has rescued a late draw for 10-man Zambia against Tanzania at the Stade Laurent Pokou.

Zambia came to the game as favourites but couldn’t settle in the first minutes, as Tanzania moved the ball swiftly.

In the 11th minute, Chipolopolo midfielder Kelvin Kampindu lost the ball in middle and experienced Mbwana Samatta collected it nicely and laid it off for Simon Msuvu who placed a shot in the top right corner, 1-0 to Tanzania.

After 20 minutes played, Zambia pushed for an equalizer and former Sekhukhune United Rodrick Kabwe played a beautiful cross but Emmanuel Banda headed it wide.

Zambia tried to play from the wings, Lameck Banda twisted and turn on the right side put in a great cross but both Patson Daka and Fashion Sankala missed the ball after 30 minutes.

In the 32nd minute Simon Msuva took on Rodrick Kabwe, and the Zambia man grabbed Msuva to get into the referee’s book for the first yellow card of the match.

The first shot on target for Chipolopolo came in the 37th minute from Lameck Banda but it went straight to the keeper.

With two minutes before half-time, Zambia captain Kabwe received his second yellow card and Chipolopo had to continue with a man down and a goal down.

After 53 minutes Tanzania had a half chance Mohamed Hussein played a cross but deflected to Zambian defender nearly put an own goal.

After 60 minutes played, the tempo of the game went down as both teams seem to struggle with the heat at San Pedro Stadium.

In the 62nd minute, Zambia had a glorious opportunity when Patson Daka pick-pocketed Tanzanian Bakari Nondo and was one-on-one with keeper, but he shot straight to Aishi Manula.

With only 12 minutes left, Lameck Banda kept on threatening on the left side, went down into the box referee Djindo Houngnandande waved play-on.

Zambia eventually scored the equaliser when Daka was on the end of a corner to send the ball with a powerful header into the back of the net.

The result saw Zambia move to two points from two games, level with DR Congo, who drew with Morocco earlier. The Atlas Lions lead the group with four points, while the Taifa Stars are at the bottom with one.
