Egypt Sack Coach

Rui Vitoria is the latest casualty of the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations, after Egypt decided to part ways with the Portuguese coach.

While they qualified for the last 16, Egypt failed to win a game in Ivory Coast, drawing all three of their group games, as well as the knockout game against semi-finalists Congo DR, where the Pharaohs lost in a penalty shootout.

Vitoria had signed a four year deal back in July 2022 when he joined, but leaves with two and half years remaining.

“Thanks to Rui Vitoria and his assistant staff,” the EFA’s post read.

?The Board of Directors of the Egyptian Football Association, following its meeting today to discuss the technical and administrative reports regarding the national team’s participation in the 2023 African Nations Championship in Côte d’Ivoire 2023, decided to thank the Portuguese Rui Vitoria, the coach of the Egyptian national team, and his assistant staff, while studying the biographies of foreign coaches and presenting them at the next meeting.

“The Council decided to approve the appointment of Mohamed Youssef as general coach of the first Egyptian national team until a foreign technical director is selected and the rest of the staff is formed.”
