Former Free State Stars head coach Tom Saintfiet aims to upset defending African Cup Of Nations champions, Senegal after overcoming their travel scare ahead of the tournament.
The Scorpions were expected to arrive in Abidjan four days ago, but they had to return to back home after the pilot noticed that there was no oxygen in the plane, which could have led to the death of all Gambia national team players, according to Saintfiet.
Saintfiet looks to draw inspiration from what happened in the matches of Group B on Sunday, where Egypt played a 2-2 draw against Mozambique and Ghana suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Cape Verder.
“We are delighted to arrive in Côte d’Ivoire for the second consecutive Africa Cup of Nations. We are well prepared for the competition, and we are ready for the start of the competition,” Tom Saintfiet told CAFOnline.
”We expect the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Côte d’Ivoire to be special and good, especially with the presence of The Gambia in Group C alongside Senegal, Guinea and Cameroon.”
Gambia are coming to this AFCON, looking to emulate their 2021 AFCON quarter-final finish, when they were knocked out by Cameroon.
