Marseille striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been embroiled in yet another row after being dramatically ousted from the Gabonese national team.
The country’s own government also suspended the entire squad and coaching set-up after a disastrous 2025 AFCON campaign in Morocco that saw them lose all of their three group stage matches.
The 36-year-old was specifically ousted for his early return home to France after only two games when Gabon had already been eliminated from the continental showpiece. To make matters worse, the former Arsenal captain had actually arrived late in Morocco because of a thigh strain.
According to UK publication the Mirror, Sports Minister Simplice-Désiré Mamboula went live on Gabon Television to announce the disbandment.
“Given the Panthers’ disgraceful performance at the Africa Cup of Nations, the government has decided to dissolve the coaching staff, suspend the national team until further notice, and remove players [captain] Bruno Ecuele Manga and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from the squad.”
