Liberia head coach Ansu Keita explained the role of former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Anthony Laffor in the national team of Liberia.
Laffor spend most of his football years as a true professional footballer in South Africa, having played for Jomo Cosmos, Supersport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Chippa United.
‘Snoti’ spoke with iDiski Times before the clash against Bafana Bafana in the African Cup Of Nations qualifiers saying that he will help his national team to qualify for their first-ever AFCON.
Keita who’s the head coach of the Lone Stars explained that when he took over he roped in Laffor to help him motivate the team and the young players and he also helped them to analyse South Africa as he played with some of the players that are in the national team.
“First of all, Anthony Laffor is a legend in Liberia, a very big legend and it’s not just this national team now, I was the coach for the U15 and U17 before giving me the job and Anthony Laffor traveled with me,” Keita said.
“I brought him on board then because the children would be motivated and when you see him coming to the national team I told him we have to work together, trust me Anthony Laffor present with us, it motivated the players and gave them confidence.
“Anthony Laffor knows the players in South Africa and he told us about them, gave us pieces of advice, and trust me, it’s exactly what went wrong. He was confident we could get a draw or win, and I was confident too, the players were too. But Anthony with us, he gave us great motivation.”
