Amajimbos head coach Vela Khumalo is pleased with the result and not the performance from his side’s narrow 3-2 victory over Mauritius in the COSAFA U17 Youth Championships in Auckland Park.
South Africa raced into a comfortable 3-0 half-time lead courtesy of Sive Pama, Neo Bohloko and Omphemetse Sekgoto’s strikes.

Khumalo rang a few changes in the second period and saw his side concede two goals which set up the match for an epic finale.
The result saw South Africa top Group C with nine points and qualify for the semis where they will meet nemesis Zambia for a place in Thursday’s final on Thursday at the same venue. The tournament is also a 2025 U17 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier to be staged in Ivory Coast.
Speaking after the match, the Kaizer Chiefs reserve team coach said he needed to see all his players, as he gave those who didn’t play the opening games a run against Mauritius.
“Result [happy] yes, performance not exactly what we wanted to see particularly with the ones that we did not start with, the small ones or rather the 14-year-olds,” said Khumalo on COSAFA TV.
“But it was a good run for them just so they have the feeling of the tournament, the competition itself, but performance wise we can still improve.
“It’s all about the minutes that the players need from this tournament so it was more about the players that didn’t really play the first two games.

“We wanted them to also have minutes on their legs which I think I’m proud to say that they have played the 90 minutes.”
