Ahead of Sunday night’s AFCON final against hosts Ivory Coast, Nigerian coach Jose Peseiro has hailed the overall effort of their talisman Victor Osimhen.
While the Napoli striker has scored only one goal this season, he is the player who has attempted the most shots at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations – 24.
But Nigeria’s Portuguese coach stated that Osimhen shouldn’t be judged on goals alone and he does so much to help the Super Eagles perform.
“You must see in the match, he fights for us, he doesn’t play like a star, he works, he defends, he attacks, he does much for the team, he sacrifices, he knows he’s an important player and he suffers contact, pressure, stress,” Peseiro said at the pre match press conference.
“But our team, captain, everyone helps him, he helps us of course, but the match is collective you can’t win alone, he knows, we know, you need a collective spirit, team and fight together.”
