How Much Prize Money Have Downs Earned In AFL So Far?

After Mamelodi Sundowns booked their spot in the inaugural African Football League final, they have guaranteed themselves nearly R56 million in prize money.

Masandawana proved too strong for Al Ahly over two legs but had to survive massive pressure by the CAF Champions League winners in the second leg.

But Sundowns pulled through and held Al Ahly to a goalless draw to booked their ticket in the final where they will meet Wydad AC after they defeated Esperance 5-4 on penalties.

The second semi-final had ended 1-1 after 90 minutes in the second leg, with Esperance cancelling out Wydad’s 1-0 first-leg win, but the Moroccan giants advanced on penalties.

The two sides, who will now meet in the two-legged final, have both secured themselves at least R55.6 million, which is how much the runners-up will get, while the winners of the AFL will receive a whopping R74 million.

All the AFL prize money, as confirmed by CAF:

  • $4 000 000 (R74 million) for the Winner
  • $3 000 000 (R55.6 million) for the Runner-up
  • $1 700 000 (R31.5 million) for each of the Semi-finalists
  • $1 000 000 (R18.5 million) for each of the Quarter-finalists
