Al Ahly are reportedly closing in on Pitso Mosimane’s successor with Portuguese coach Ricardo Soares emerging as one of the leading candidates.
Soares, 47, is currently at the helm of top-flight club Gil Vicente and has been lauded as one of the most promising tacticians in the league having led the club to a record fifth-placed position in the league and qualifying them for the UEFA Conference League next season.

According to local news outlet A Bola, he’s been contacted by the Egyptian giants to succeed Mosimane and is interested in taking up the role, which could be the biggest of his career since he moved into coaching at the age of 30.
Soares is said to have been offered a two-year contract with Ahly and is likely to take the technical team he worked with at Gil ahead of his next move just weeks before the Portuguese club’s start of pre-season.
The Red Devils are no strangers to Portuguese coaches with club legend and four-time CAF Champions League winner Manuel José, Toni Oliveira, and José Peseiro all among the previous names to lead The Club of the Century.
He will have big shoes to fill after the South African led Ahly to three successive Champions League finals during his 20-month spell in Cairo.
