Al Ahly Announce Starting XI For CWC Semi

Pitso Mosimane has announced his starting XI for their FIFA Club World Cup semi-final against Palmeiras.

The CAF Champions League winners will face the Copa Libertadores champions for a second time in the space of a year after knocking out Monterrey in the previous round.

Last year, Al Ahly beat Palmeiras on penalties after the game ended goalless after 120 minutes.

Mosimane could become the club’s first ever coach to reach the CWC final, should Al Ahly manage to beat the Brazilian side.

So far, only two African teams have managed to qualify for a CWC final, namely TP Mazembe in 2010 and Raja Casablanca in 2013.

Mosimane received a boost ahead of the game after Mohamed Abdelmonem, Mohamed El Shenawy, Amr El-Sulya, Mohamed Sherif, Ayman Ashraf and Hamdy Fathy all joined the squad in the United Arab Emirates following their defeat in the African Cup of Nations final.

El-Sulya, who started Sunday’s AFCON final, as well Ashraf, who was an unused substitute in the final made, Mosimane’s team selection for today’s CWC semi-final.

Al Ahly XI: Ali Lotfi, Ayman Ashraf, Rami Rabia, Yasser Ibrahim, Ali Ma’aloul, Aliou Dieng, Amr El-Sulya, Mohamed Hany, Mohamed Magdy Afsha, Taher Mohamed Taher, Hussein El-Shahat.
