Al Ahly Legend – What New Coach Does Better Than Pitso

Former Al Ahly forward Osama Hosny has praised Al Ahly coach Marcel Koller, pointing out the difference between the Swiss coach and Pitso Mosimane.

Koller took the reigns of the club in the beginning of the season after the unsuccessful spell of Mosimane successor Ricardo Soares, and has lifted three trophies so far.

Hosny, who won more than 15 trophies during his heyday with the club, praised the Swiss coach for his tactical acumen and involving all players in the squad – an area where Mosimane wasn’t as good, in his opinion.

“Koller was successful in choosing the best formation for the Pyramids match in the Super Cup, and he also has a distinguished substitutes bench,” Hosny said, as per KingFut.

“This appeared through the participation of Hussein El Shahat, Kahraba, and Khaled Abdelfattah. He prepared well for the game.

“Koller did a brilliant job in preparing all the players, unlike the period of Pitso Mosimane, although the South African is a good coach, he did not prepare the substitutes.

“Now we no longer feel the absence of any player in the presence of distinguished players, and the Swiss coach had a clear vision at the beginning of the season after learning of the dense schedule locally and continentally.

“Al Ahly’s choice of Koller was successful, and the decision they took at the end of last season to rest the players was good.”

Despite continued criticism from Al Ahly, Mosimane lifted five trophies during his near two-year spell in Egypt, namely back-to-back CAF Champions League and back-to-back CAF Super Cup titles at Al Ahly, as well as one Egypt Cup, while also collecting two bronze medals at the FIFA Club World Cup.

The South African coach, though, has long moved on and is now in charge of Al Ahli Saudi, guiding them back into the Saudi Pro League after the club had been relegated for the first time in their history.
