Amajita Complete Botswana Double

South Africa’s national U20 side Amajita made it two wins out of two after beating neighbours Botswana 4-1 in their second friendly international at UJ Soweto Campus on Tuesday morning.

After a resounding 6-0 thrashing at the same venue last week Saturday, head coach Raymond Mdaka made several changes to the team that started the previous match with leading star strikers Jody Ah Shene and Shakeel April both starting from the bench while Mfundo Vilakazi was given a starting berth.

Amajita started the second friendly where they left off with Stellenbosch FC winger Langelihle Phili opening the scoring in the 19th minute to make it 1-0. Oteng Aphiri then equalized for the Young Zebras to make it 1-1 in the 27th miniute.

South Africa then scored two quick goals just before halftime through SuperSport United striker Siviwe Magidigidi (31st minute) and Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Davis Morwaswi in the 45th minute as they took a comfortable 3-1 lead into the break.

In-form Cape Town City winger April then rounded off the scoring in the 78th minute to make it 4-1 as Mdaka’s charges sealed the win.

This matches served as ideal preparations for the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament that will be held in Côte d’Ivoire from 26 April – 18 May.

The top four nations at the continental showpiece will then qualify for the 2025 FIFA Under-20 World Cup to be held in Chile from 27 September-19 October 2025.
