Yanga SC and Burkina Faso forward Stephane Aziz Ki has opened up about interest from Kaizer Chiefs before moving to Tanzania.
Aziz Ki was reported to have been offered to Amakhosi while with Asec Mimosas in 2022 however the move did not materialise as he joined the then-Nasreddine Nabi-led side.
The 28-year-old has since made a name for himself in Tanzania where he became the domestic top goal scorer with 21 goals last season and also went on to win two more awards, the most valuable Player of the Season and Midfielder of the Season.
Aziz Ki spoke to IDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu in the latest edition of the newspaper where he admitted the interest from the Soweto giants. He outlined how he was impressed by the Yanga boss coming to his home as a key deciding factor.
“Yes, I know they [Chiefs] wanted me,” Aziz told iDiski Times.
“But when someone comes and shows you this respect because the President of Yanga came to see me when I was playing against RS Berkane in Morocco. After that, they came to my family and spoke to me in front of my family, my mother; that was already too much for me, that was special.
“This showed me their seriousness; they came all the way from Dar es Salaam to my family, not just call and say, ‘Aziz, we’ve got an offer for you’. I appreciated and trusted this project and the way it came also; I was ready to come and join them.”
