Bafana Bafana goalkeeper and captain Ronwen Williams has received three nominations for the 2024 CAF awards, including the main award – the African Men’s Player of the Year.
On Thursday, the Confédération African Football announced that this year’s CAF awards will again be hosted in Morocco. The gala will be hosted in Marrakech on 16 December, with the exact time yet to be confirmed.
CAF have also released the list of nominees for their awards, with Williams the only player based in Africa and only goalkeeper to be nominated for the CAF Player of the Year.
Williams is also the only South African to make the shortlist for the Interclub Player of the Year award.
Finally, the Downs goalkeeper was also nominated in the CAF Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year category, where Chippa United’s Stanley Nwabali is also one of the 10 nominees.
Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns have made the 10-team shortlist for the CAF Men’s Club of the Year.
Bafana’s fine work over the course of 2024 has also been recognised as the South African men’s national team has been nominated among the National Teams of the Year.
Last but not least, the man who has overseen Bafana’s incredible rise, which climaxed in the bronze medal at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations, and is currently unbeaten in 14 games – Hugo Broos has been nominated in the Coach of the Year category.
