Botes Appointed Uganda Coach

Uganda Football Association (FUFA) have appointed former SAFA Girls Soccer Academy coach Sheryl Botes as their senior women’s team head coach on a three-year deal.

This publication reported in edition 129 of the newspaper that Botes had tendered her resignation at the end of October after serving the SAFA for 16 years, helping with the development of the core of the Banyana Banyana players that qualified for the last two FIFA Women’s World Cups.

Botes brought with her to Uganda Sports Scientist Ashley De Beer and Goalkeeper Coach David Ribeiro with FUFA President Moses Hassim, confirming that there will also be Ugandan officials forming part of Botes’ technical team.

The arrival of the new coach has been as a step to help the Crested Cranes improve and compete at the highest level, while the coach will also be monitoring the U17 and U20 national teams.

Speaking after the unveiling Botes said she is grateful for the opportunity, adding that she is confident that she will carry out her duties.

“I am honoured for the opportunity availed to me to lead the Crested Cranes,” said the former SA U20 coach on FUFA website.

“I’m here to work and help improve the standards of the Women’s National Team and I believe with my experience in the game, I would be able to execute my responsibility.”

Botes is the second South African coach in a few weeks to find a job outside South African boarders following the appointment of Shilene Booysen at Wadi Degla in Egypt.
