Former Al Ahly and Zamalek SC head coach Patrice Carteron believes Mamelodi Sundowns has been the best club in Africa in 2023.
The Frenchman was speaking to Egyptian publication Btolat about the recent 2023 CAF Awards nominations where he lauded Sundowns for their recent exploits.
“Sundowns performed wonderfully [at the] tournament in the African Super League and won the title deservedly,” he said when asked about the Best Club Of 2023.
With Al Ahly, Wydad, USMA and Young Africans among the final nominees, he was clear in his preference but selected the Red Devils captain as the inter-club award winner.
“Mohamed El Shenawy, he won the African Champions League and was considered the best goalkeeper within the continent,” in short was his reasoning.
Percy Tau, Ali Maaloul, Kahraba are the other Ahly stars amongst the final nominations while Mamelodi Sundowns’ Peter Shalulile is the only representative of Masandawana.
