Chiefs Fail To Beat Angolan Side In Friendly

Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs were held to a 1-1 draw by Angolan Girabola side Bravos do Maquis in a friendly played behind closed doors at FNB Stadium on Monday.

The Glamour Boys continue with preparations for the 2024/25 Betway Premiership campaign under the watchful eye of head coach Nasreddine Nabi, having recently returned from a pre-season tour in Türkiye.

Amakhosi succumbed to a thumping 4-0 defeat to Tanzanian giants Young Africans in the Toyota Cup a fortnight ago and were looking to bounce back to winning ways after hammering Qatari Stars League side Al Shahaniya SC 5-2 before their return to South Africa.

Bravos do Maquis took the lead via a Manico strike as he pierced through the Chiefs defence before slotting past Brandon Petersen.

Ashley Du Preez then restored parity for Chiefs shortly after, outpacing the Bravos backline before placing the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs to make it 1-1, for a share of the spoils.

Here’s how Chiefs lined up:

Chiefs Starting XI: Petersen, Frosler, Dortley, Msimango, Mashiane, Castillo, Maart, Vilakazi, Shabalala, Mmodi, Du Preez.

Bravos is the same side that lost 3-2 to Chiefs’ arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in a friendly match recently.
