Football Association Of Malawi has appointed Patrick Mabedi as the caretaker coach of the senior side.
The former Kaizer Chiefs defender has been serving as the assistant coach of the Flames senior side since May 2022 and has been in charge of the Under-20 since 2020.
The 49-year-old will lead the team through the two remaining 2023 African Cup Of Nations qualifiers against Ethiopia in June and Guinea in September as well as the COSAFA Cup in May.
In the meantime, the FA will be in the process to recruit a full-time Head coach.
The Flames are sitting fourth in ‘Group D’ with three points after four games. The chances of qualifying for the AFCON in Ivory Coast are very slim and it is no longer on their hands.
