Kaizer Chiefs defender Inácio Miguel has been snubbed in the Angolan national team for next month’s COSAFA Cup but there was a call-up for on-loan Orlando Pirates winger Gilberto.
Head coach Pedro Gonçalves has opted to leave out the Amakhosi vice-captain from his Angolan squad for the 2025 Cosafa Cup which commences from 4 June to 15 June 2025 in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
Angola will be defending their title after they hammered Namibia 5-0 in the final last year.
Despite recently being crowned Nedbank Cup champion with Chiefs in his debut season, playing a vital role by scoring three goals in the tournament – one behind teammate and top scorers Pule Mmodi and Tshegofatso Mabasa from Orlando Pirates, it was not enough to convince Gonçalves to include him with his omission coming as a surprise to many who felt his form deserved some recognition.
Meanwhile, Gilberto, who is on loan at Petro de Luanda, was included in the squad after aiding them win to the Angolan Premier League title.
