Cisse Used To Call Himself Doctor

Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo explained how influential he was in the 90s that he was subject to the nickname of an African legend.

Khumalo played most of his football career at Chiefs, where he made close to 400 appearances for the club between 1987 and 2004.

In between those years, he was loaned out to Ferro Carril Oeste in Argentina.

He also played in the USA for Columbus Crew in the 1996/97 season while he was also part of the Bafana Bafana squad that won the only AFCON in 1996.

Speaking with iDiski Times, Mdokis mentioned an interesting factor about the former Senegal legend Aliou Cisse, who used to call himself ‘Doctor’.

“You know Aliou Cissé? The Senegalese? He’s friends with Pitso. So he was here [when Pitso received his doctorate],” Khumalo explained.

“So he was saying to me when he grew up, when he was younger, he then started to call himself Doctor. And he said, ‘In Senegal, we love you. We’re looking at you and JJ Okocha’ [as inspiration in African football].”
