Doctor Praised After SA Legends Beat Namibia Legends

A South African Legends team organised by Doctor Khumalo beat a Namibian Legends team on penalties over the weekend.

South Africa won the encounter 6-5 on penalties after the match ended 1-1 in regular time at the Hage Geingob Exhibition Cup.

It was the home side that scored first through Page Ananias but former SuperSport United and Pirates player Katlego Mashego cancelled that lead.

The South African team consisted of Mashego, Lekgwathi, Lucas Radebe, Doctor Khumalo, Patrick Mohatla, Cyril Nzama, Happy Jele, Simphiwe Tshabalala, Thapelo Liau, Lebohang Kukame, Teboho Mokoena, Frank Makuwa, Steve Lekoelea, Japie Motale and Edward Motale.

Orlando Pirates legend Lucky Lekgwathi says their friendly with their Namibian counterparts showed how appreciated they still are as the South Africans enjoyed a royal treatment from the Namibian fans and tournament organisers.

Lekgwathi thanked former Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Khumalo for organising the event, adding that other legends can borrow a page from his book.

“We had a good time in Namibia playing in a packed, packed stadium,” Lekgwathi told iDiski Times.

“It’s very rare to see legends playing in a packed stadium. It shows that the people of Namibia love the game and they love their legends, not just Namibian but even South African.

“The way they gave us attention, the way they supported us and the way they gave us Presidential treatment.

“We even went to the state house of the Republic of Namibia to meet with the President and have lunch with him. It was a big honour and a privilege to meet the President and the people of Namibia who love and support South African teams like Chiefs and Pirates. They know their legends and we really enjoyed it.

“Credit must go to our living legend Doctor Khumalo who organised this. I salute him because everything went well, he knows how to organise things.

“I think us as fellow legends we must learn from him because we are blessed to have a living legend or leadership like him.

“And also having people like Lucas Radebe around us was also good and everything went well. Again we are grateful to the people of Namibia and especially the President for making time for us.”
