Downs Opponents Lodge Complaint Because Of Pitso

Mamelodi Sundowns’ CAF Champions League group opponents have lodged an official complaint about the draw for the group stages because of Pitso Mosimane.

The three-time CAFCL winner conducted the draw as honorary guest for the Confederation of African Football in Cairo last week.

During the draw, Mosimane’s Al Ahly were paired with Sundowns as well as Sudanese sides Al Hilal and Al-Merreikh in what could be called a Group of Death.

The latter have now revealed that they have lodged an official complaint to CAF about Mosimane – the coach of a participating team – conducting the draw.

“For the first time, one of the coaches of the 16 participating teams that qualified for the Champions League involved in the draw.” Al Merreikh vice-president Abel Abugreisha told Al-Hayah TV, as cited by Kingfut.

“We lodged a protest to the Confederation of African Football, through an official letter, through President Hazem Mostafa, because of Mosimane picking the teams in the Champions League draw, and we have not received a response from CAF so far.

“This has nothing to do with our relationship with the clubs, the matter is for the Confederation of African Football, Mosimane was an opponent and a referee in the draw, and this is happened for the first time. It’s unjust for the Al Ahly coach to take part in the draw.”

The CAF Champions League group stages kick off on 11 February, when Al Ahly host Al Merreikh, while Sundowns welcome Al Hilal.
