Downs Veteran Makes National Team Return

Mamelodi Sundowns veteran goalkeeper Denis Onyango has earned a surprise return to the Uganda squad for their 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers double header against Mozambique and Somalia.

Onyango, 40, initially called time on his international career in April 2021 after the Cranes failed to qualify for the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.

He has however since made a sensational return to the national team fold after regular number one Ismail Watenga suffered a long-term injury with the Masandawana shotstopper now earmarked to help the Cranes in their quest to qualify for the global showpiece in the US next year.

Another player who also plies his trade in South Africa and plays for Uganda is Richards Bay goalminger Salim Magoola and looks set to deputise for Onyango.
