Pitso Mosimane’s predecessor at Al Ahly Rene Weiler has returned to football after being appointed at J-League giants Kashima Antlers.
Weiler has signed a one year deal with the eight-time Japanese top-flight champions after more than a year since leaving the Egyptian Premier League side.
The former Anderlecht tactician won a league title and Egypt Super Cup during his stint at Ahly before resigning due to wanting to be closer to his family once the Covid-19 pandemic struck.
Antlers announced that Weiler has signed a one-year contract via the club’s official website as they look to improve on their fourth-placed finish from last season,
“I look forward to taking charge at Kashima Antlers. I will do my best to do that,” he said upon the announcement.
Since Mosimane succeeded the Swiss mentor, he’s won two CAF Champions League titles, the Egypt Cup, CAF Super Cup and finished third at the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup.
