South African tactician Fadlu Davids guided Simba SC to a hard-fought 2-1 win over Bigman to progress to the quarterfinals of the CRDB Bank Federation Cup on Thursday afternoon.
Reds of Msimbazi took an early two-goal lead through Zambian attacker Joshua Mutale who tapped in from close range in the 17th minute before Leonel Ateba struck from the penalty spot in the 31st minute.
The visitors reduced the deficit on the stroke of halftime but were unable to get back into the match as the home side held on to keep their silverware chances alive.
Simba will now await the last eight fixtures to see who they will be pitted up against next as their rivals Young Africans are still in the competition and will face Tabora on Wednesday, 2 April, for a place in the quarterfinals.
