Former Chiefs Man Offered Prestigious Head Coach Role

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Patrick Mabedi is set to be appointed as the new head coach of Malawi national team.

Mabedi was a defender of Chiefs and spent eight years in the club, making over 200 appearances. After his time at Amakhosi, he had two seasons with Moroka Swallows, where he made just over 30 appearances before he retired from football.

He was appointed as the academy manager at Swallows in 2011/12 and served the club for three years. Craig Rosslee roped him in as his assistant coach in 2014/15 season but that only lasted for six games.

Mabedi worked under various coaches in the Premier Soccer League, including experienced Muhsin Ertugral, Steve Komphela and Giovanni Solinas.

He took over as the caretaker coach of the Malawi national team in April up until the Football Association decided to offer him the head coach role.

According to the information received by iDiski Times, Mabedi has been offered a two-year contract by the Malawi FA and, although he is yet to put the pen on the dotted line, he is expected to to sign in the coming days.

With FIFA World Cup qualifiers set to kick off on 13 November, Mabedi will look to send the Flames to their first ever World Cup showpiece. Malawi has been drawn in Group H alongside Tunisia, Equatorial Guinea, Namibia, Liberia and São Tomé.
